Puffin, Skomer Island

I spent a night on Skomer Island with a friend, reached by a half hour boat journey from Martin's Haven, near Marloes, on the south western tip of Pembrokeshire. Skomer Island is less than 3 square kilometers, yet more than ten thousand Atlantic Puffins arrive in mid-April every year to nest in the burrows, many of which are dug by rabbits, making Skomer one of the most important Puffin colonies in Britain. We spent many glorious hours watching as the adult puffins dived in the sea at the foot of the hundred-feet cliffs, to return with beaks full of sand eels for their chick.
